The Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, in collaboration with BalletMet, are excited to present an evening of entertainment alfresco! At nightfall, the Columbus skyline along the Scioto Mile is the perfect backdrop for an evening of exhilarating ballet.
Performing excerpts and iconic moments from the company’s 2016/17 season, BalletMet will showcase both classical and contemporary works from Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker and Twisted 2, a collaboration between BalletMet, Opera Columbus and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Under the direction of artistic director Edwaard Liang, BalletMet ranks among the nation’s top 20 ballet companies.
Since its inception in 1978, BalletMet has made the commission and performance of new works a core organizational priority, with more than 150 World Premieres and hundreds of Company Premieres performed throughout its history. BalletMet stages 60 to 70 performances annually at home and on tour. BalletMet’s Academy has also been recognized as an institution of local and national stature.
