Rock Out with The Navigators
Posted on June 19, 2012
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is thrilled to welcome classic rock group The Navigators to Bicentennial Park this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. for a free performance as part of the Rhythm on the River series.
The Navigators are a classic rock group made up of Columbus executives and professionals playing high-energy rock tunes from the 1960s to today. The band formed in 2003, just looking to provide entertainment for a church event. Most members are current or former executives at American Electric Power including the AEP chief operating officer, a tax attorney, and an optometrist.
Still, do NOT underestimate these guys’ ability to rock! The members have a wide array of experience; some have even opened for Kansas, Jefferson Airplane and Jimmy Buffett. Expect lots of horns, multilayered vocals and covers of classic hits from the Beatles, Chicago and the Commodores at Friday night’s performance. The band boasts 13 talented members, each helping to provide a full, classic feel to each song.
While they don’t play many shows, when they do they play for a cause. Since their formation in 2003, they have helped to raise over $200,000 to help local and national charities such as the Salvation Army, Mid-Ohio Foodbank, Hilltop YMCA, the American Red Cross and more.
Rhythm on the River features an eclectic series of touring artists, local musicians and arts organizations. Produced by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, the 2012 series will present seven free outdoor performances in Bicentennial Park. In addition to Rhythm on the River, Bicentennial Park is also home to Movies on the Mile and FountainSide presented by Sunny 95 (94.7 FM). All performances and programs are free and open to the public. For more information on free programs along the Scioto Mile, please visit www.SciotoMile.com.
